My Story
I was born into a long line of bookkeepers. Pop was a traveling clothier and eventually opened a local storefront where Mimi kept the books. I can still see her perched up at the desk in the back office where she’d let me tap on the calculator and always made sure there was an ice cold glass bottle of Coke waiting for her grandchildren. When Pop passed, my Dad graciously took the reins of the family business that kept food on the table for our employees and family for over 50 years. My Mom kept meticulous books to the penny and Dad made sure to check them twice.
When life took an unexpected turn in 2015, I began working at the family business and slowly learned how my Mom kept the books with paper and pencil. Soon it became clear that we needed to digitally convert the business and by 2019, I found myself an owner…and the bookkeeper.
If there’s one thing my parents taught me, it’s that people matter. Stories matter. Numbers will go up and down, but the way that we treat people - the way that we enter into their stories - will always stick with them. And if there’s one thing I learned while being a small business owner, it’s that a good story begins and ends in the Truth…and in business, the Truth is in the numbers.
Over those six years of business ownership, I watched the numbers rise and fall. There were many days watching the bank account to make sure the business wouldn’t over withdraw when the pending checks came out. I don’t miss that! But I do miss being part of the story of a local business, and that’s where the decision to find a new way forward with remote bookkeeping came into play.
Truth be told, working with numbers hasn’t always come easily for me, but I’ve learned to lean into their power. At my core, I am a Story Teller, and my passion is telling the Truth. That’s what I want to do for you. As your bookkeeper, I’ll be a steady source to support your story.
